Welcome !

Welcome to the official site of Cub Scout Pack 177. We are based in Mountainside, NJ and are chartered by the Community Presbyterian Church of Mountainside. Pack 177 is in the Watchung Mountain District of the Patriots' Path Council of Boy Scouts of America.

Our Pack has a total of 14 Dens, each comprised of boys of the same age and/or grade level. Currently, the Pack has 85 active members, boys in grades 1 through 5.

Our official scouting year runs from September through March, but we conduct a wide variety of fun and exciting activities for scouts and their families throughout the year. These activities include hikes, camping, picnics, the Pinewood Derby, Blue & Gold Banquet, and other fun and community service projects.

Scouting can provide your son with a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, enjoy new experiences and adventures, and learn about sportsmanship, honesty, fair play and respect. Most importantly, your child will learn to do his best and have fun!

Pinewood Derby

The “classic” Cub Scout event, the Pinewood Derby provides the opportunity for the boys to build a racing car (from a kit), decorate it, and race it against all the other boys in the Pack. The cars with the best racing times go on to compete in the regional races, and perhaps even nationally. This year’s Derby will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, in Pollard Hall at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Dinner and a preview of all the cars will begin at 5:45 pm. The races will start at 6:30 pm sharp! The kits were distributed at the December Pack Meeting, so if you haven’t gotten one yet, contact your Den leader. Weigh-ins are scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th, and Friday, February 3rd. For additional information about the Pinewood Derby, please contact your Den leader.

Sports Night

In lieu of a January Pack Meeting, we plan Sports Night for all scouts at the Deerfield School gym. This year it will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012. Come out and try your luck at various sporting activities and feats of skill. You might even get the opportunity to learn a new game! The activities will begin promptly at 6:30 pm, so please be on time. Please note that while siblings may attend this event, they may not participate in the activities. For additional information, please contact your Den leader.

Annual November Food Drive

Once again this year, Pack 177 will be collecting non-perishable food for needy families, in conjunction with our charter organization Community Presbyterian Church. Scouts will leave empty food bags at houses on assigned streets on Saturday, November 12th. Street assignments will be made by Den Leaders. Scouts will then collect the bags the following Saturday, November 19th, and bring the filled food bags to the church. All materials and "Do Not Knock" lists will be provided by Den Leaders.

Bonfire and Campout

Our September Pack Meeting is the annual bonfire with optional overnight camping which takes place in the Watchung Reservation. It’s the “official” start of the Scouting year, and welcomes all new members to Pack 177. See the attached flyer for additional details regarding the campout.
